History of plastic industry in Estonia

Plastic industry started in the beginning of the twentieth century.

Smaller details like buttons or combs were manufactured from casein, bakelite, celluloid. Main manufacturing areas were technical products and consumer goods.

The fifties brought the introduction of thermoplastics, which laid the foundation for the widespread use of plastics in many areas of life. Developed in electrical engineering and packaging industries, and consumer and sporting goods. Of these, the most common ones were Estiko, Estoplast, Norma, Polymer, Red RET, and Salvo.
